If it’s Wednesday, it must be time for another round of…
…in which I use the character creation rules in the Marvel Super Heroes RPG’s Ultimate Powers Book to roll up a random batch of powers and abilities, then sit back and watch as some incredibly talented folks work their creative magic upon the quantified chaos.
This week’s divinely inspired effort is the result of a collaboration between Kris Stacks (art) and Jason Urbanciz (writing).
Chris Nimbus was a normal kid in suburban Chicago. Always fraught with allergies, and bizarrely static electricity, he lived a very inward life. His single mother was almost always working and whenever she did get time off for them to go on a vacation, Chris inevitably got sick until they returned home. He was happy, but he knew there was more. Then on his sixteenth birthday he met his father.
Zeus had come to his mother in the guise of a Nickleback roadie and their “love” bore fruit in the form of Chris. Zeus was pleased to meet his latest son and brought him to Olympus to meet his new family. As soon as he arrived Chris fell into a coma from which even the healing powers of the gods could not revive him. It was quickly discovered that Chris was allergic to the energies of the ambrosia that empowered the gods and granted them immortality. It was deemed for his own safety that Chris could never live amongst his kind. Bitter that he was denied his birthright, Chris cut himself off from the only family he had left, his mother, realizing that Zeus had even contaminated her, thus his sickness whenever they spent time together.
Discovering that his father’s DNA had still granted him power, Chris renamed himself Lord Brain Cloud and quickly became determined that if he couldn’t live as a god on Mount Olympus, he’d create a new pantheon of gods on Earth. Using his abilities to seek out others granted with superhuman powers, he began searching out those who will rule under him. Of course, not everyone wanted to bend their knee to Lord Brain Cloud. Using his mental abilities, he clouded the minds of the weak-willed so they’d easily follow him. Those who were too strong to bend had their minds destroyed, becoming thoughtless superhuman brutes who are now the footsoldiers of the young demigod’s More Awesome Olympians.
Currently Lord Brain Cloud is solidifying his powerbase in the mid-west, seeking out new superhumans to serve him. Soon enough he will attract his father’s attentions and a war of old gods versus the new will come to the Earth.
Are you an artist, writer, or terrifying combination of the two who’d like to try your hand at the Ultimate Powers Jam? Then drop me a line at bitter(dot)andrew(at)gmail(dot)com and I’ll commence the dice to rolling.
